Every kid has dreams of building the coolest tree fort in the neighborhood. 11-year-old Omari Grant had that dream, and he was working to make the dream a reality with his friends last week.
Grant claims he and his friends often play in a wooded area behind his house. Instead of staying in the house all day playing video games, Grant and his friends were out being kids. Cutting down tree limbs to build their awesome tree fort.
Well, one of his neighbors decided to ruin the fun by calling the police. A neighbor from the subdivision called 911 because she was “concerned” for the kids.
“There were falling hazards, tripping hazards, all types of hazards, so No. 1 was concern for the children and concern for the environment.”
Two officers approached the boys a short time later. One of the officers had his gun drawn. Omari’s mother, Janice Baptiste, told Channel 2 the following…
“I guess the release of tension was like, ‘Mom, he had a gun in my face, Mommy. Mommy, he had a gun in my face.’ So my son was of course traumatized by that.”
Grant claims the officer also used foul language and made them get down on the ground. “I was thinking that I don’t want to be shot today, so I just listened to what they said.” Grant told the reporter.
Sgt. Joey Smith claims the police department is now investigating the incident…
“If it was justified then we’ll deal with it, if it wasn’t we’ll address it as well.”
That sounds promising. This is such a ridiculous story. The neighbor wasn’t concerned for their safety. If she was, she would have just went to his house and talked with his mother, or went outside to tell the kids to be careful.
Who the hell calls the police on a group of kids because they’re cutting down a tree limb in the woods? Let the kids have fun!
