You’ve heard those horror stories from people who have been screwed by the cable company or their cell phone provider. Maybe they received some outrageous bill for $2,000.
But Ken Slusher and his girlfriend have everyone beat. Verizon Wireless claims he and his girlfriend owe more than $2 million! A reporter from FOX 12 listened in on the phone as Slusher called an automated phone line to confirm the balance.
The voice recording said, “Your total amount due is $2,156,593.64.”
This is extra troubling for Ken, his girlfriend and their kids because they are trying to close on a new house. Ken was scheduled to close on it next week, but with collection agencies making his name look bad, his mortgage company won’t sign off on a loan until the problem is solved.
“If I don’t get this straightened out in the next 24 hours, I can almost guarantee I’ll lose this house.”
Reporters tried to help the guy by calling Verizon Wireless executives. A spokeswoman for the company responded late Tuesday night and said they were looking into the situation.
The next day, another spokesperson told reporters that they had apologized to Slusher and “resolved the issue to his satisfaction.”
By the way, Slusher only used their service for one month. He canceled it after noticing major discrepancies on their first bill. The first bill should have been around $120, but for some reason they charged him almost $700. And to make the situation even weirder, it showed a previous balance of $451.
“The number of errors and the comedy of which they happened is astounding to me.”
It’s pretty sad that he had to take this story to the media to get Verizon to fix it. If he hadn’t, they probably would have screwed him out of a house.
