It was a Christmas to remember for all the wrong reasons for the family of a man who fell 60 feet to his death Friday afternoon.
The accident happened in San Diego near Sunset Cliffs Blvd. Witnesses claim they saw the man using an electronic device as he walked near the edge of the cliff. He “wasn’t watching where he was walking, he was looking down at the device in his hands.” San Diego lifeguard Bill Bender told KNSD-TV.
Before anyone had the chance to save him, the man just dropped right off the edge of the cliff. People at the scene rushed to find a safe way to reach him. Once they successfully made their way down the cliff, they “administered CPR to the person in an attempt to save a life.”
Unfortunately, there was nothing they could do. He was pronounced dead by the paramedics who arrived at the scene a short time later.
Bender wants everyone to learn from this man’s mistake…
“Just like driving and using a cellphone, you don’t want to be walking and using a cellphone or be distracted or anything.”
Details regarding the man’s age and name still haven’t been released.
