Do you have sock-making skills, an LED indicator light, batteries, Arduino microcontroller, IR LEDs, and an accelerometer? And do you also have a deep “understanding of electronics and microcontroller programming”? If so, then you could give the Netflix lover in your life one of the best Christmas presents ever.
Thanks to makeit.netflix.com, we now have a fix to a problem every Netflix user has had at some point: falling asleep while watching an episode of your favorite Netflix series. This is a problem because the episodes just continue playing while you’re sleeping. When you wake up, you might be in for some disturbing spoilers.
Netflix socks will put an end to that. They have an accelerometer that can detect when your body is still enough to be asleep. A signal is then sent to Netflix to stop the show you were watching before falling asleep. According to Netflix, the accelerometer is extremely sensitive, so it should know the difference between sleeping and intense relaxing.
Like we mentioned above though, you’ll have to make these socks yourself. You can’t purchase them. The neat idea is one of the DIY projects Netflix has been showcasing. They do provide step-by-step instructions for anyone brave enough to take on the project.
