You have probably noticed this headline being shared on your Facebook feed, and technically the headline is accurate. In a poll, conducted by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni, 10% of the college graduates surveyed believed Judge Judy serves on the Supreme Court.
But we should note the question didn’t actually list “Judge Judy” as one of the choices. Instead, they listed her full name Judith Sheindlin.
The question looked like this…
Which of the following people serves on the U.S. Supreme Court?
- Elena Kagan
- Lawrence Warren Pierce
- John Kerry
- Judith Sheindlin
And it should also be noted that 61.6% answered the question correctly. We are not trying to defend those who picked ol’ Judith; however, we do want to point out that the number would have probably been lower had the test actually listed her TV name.
Honestly, the most alarming result from this survey is that 35% of college graduates believe the President holds the power to declare war. 60% answered correctly by saying Congress holds the power, and 3.3% answered “none of the above.”
But you know, the Judge Judy headline gets more clicks.
