We are taking a quick break from the stupid criminals of the world to focus on an incredibly brave 19-year-old girl from Virginia.
Charlotte Heffelmire used a powerful adrenaline rush to save her father from being burned alive. Her father, Eric, was working inside the family garage on a pick-up truck when the jack holding up the car failed and pinned him to the ground.
Gas started to leak soon after, which caused a small fire. This was particularly concerning because there were propane tanks inside the garage.
Charlotte, who stands at just 5ft 6in, jumped into action…without socks or shoes on her feet. She ran into the garage and was somehow able to briefly lift the truck off her father.
Eric told reporters the following…
“I felt the weight shift, and I said, ‘You almost got it,’ and then it was just UGHHHHHHRRR, and suddenly I’m pulled out.”
But Charlotte wasn’t finished being a superhero yet. She jumped inside the truck and drove it on its three wheels away from the propane containers. A move that saved her family and their home. She even sprayed the fire inside the garage with a garden hose until firefighters arrived.
She didn’t realize it at the time, thanks to the adrenaline, but she did suffer a few pretty painful injuries. She had burns on her feet and injured her back while lifting the truck. The injuries have prevented her from returning to the US Air Force Academy.
“If I can’t do any of the military branches, then [I’ll] probably just [do] intelligence or government work. Right now I’m just healing up and making sure the family is OK.”
