21-year-old Dany Y. Ortiz isn’t addicted to meth, alcohol or even love. He’s addicted to pizza, and we’re not talking about Domino’s or Pizza Hut. He’s addicted to real pizza pies.
And to support this expensive (and unhealthy) addiction, Ortiz had to do some things we’re sure he’s not proud of. He was arrested and charged with felony burglary to a motor vehicle. He reportedly went from neighborhood to neighborhood stealing money from unlocked cars.
Riverside police Chief Thomas Weitzel claims this case is truly unique…
“This is one of the most unusual and bizarre burglary patterns I have ever come across in my 31 years in law enforcement.”
Ortiz had apparently been stealing from the vehicles for several weeks. His plan was working, but things went south for him when a resident gave police a home surveillance video showing her car being burglarized in her driveway by Ortiz. He was reportedly wearing slippers, an old T-shirt and pajama bottoms during the crime.
When police showed up at Ortiz’s house, he gave them a full confession. He told them that he was a huge pizza lover and wanted to try every slice of pizza in the area. He even named several pizza restaurants in the area to assure police he wasn’t trying to hide a more dangerous habit.
And his story does make sense. As police reported, Ortiz would never touch any other items (like laptops, iPads, etc) inside the vehicles. He was only interested in the cash. He also never forced his way inside the cars. He’d only target the ones that were unlocked.
What a nice guy.
