Dogs stuck inside shelters all day need all the love in the world. It’s not an easy life for them, and for some dogs, it’s the only life they know.
A high school cross country team in California decided to brighten up the day of several shelter dogs by taking them on their morning run. Stacy Silva, community outreach coordinator for Santa Barbara County Animal Services, told reporters that it was a win-win situation, “It was a win-win for both the cross country team and shelter dogs. Tired dogs equal happy dogs.”
It was a positive experience for the teenagers. In fact, it was probably the most enjoyable ‘morning run’ they’ve ever had. You know, as enjoyable as running in the morning can be.
The team’s running coach wrote on Facebook that he couldn’t figure out who was more excited…
“I am not sure who was more excited and having the most fun…the dogs or the kids. Either way, it was a great time and I am sure we will do it again sometime soon.”
And this little outing was the coach’s idea. He thought it would be a fun way to help the kids on his team earn the voluntary service points required of them by the school. But still, even after the points are obtained, the coach plans to continue the tradition.
“It was interesting because the dogs were so excited to get out and to be outside, but some of them are not in great shape. They had a great time, they were barking and running and just going nuts.”
