A student by the name of Hazel Juco was using the sink in her school’s bathroom when she noticed the water coming out was discolored.
It was a little concerning, so she decided to take a photo of it and post it on social media, hoping someone would notice the photo and fix the problem.
But she did not get the reaction she expected. Instead of getting a, “Hey…thanks for letting us know” from school officials, Juco was called to the office and slapped with a three-day suspension.
“They told me I was being suspended for three days, OSS [Out of School Suspension], for taking a picture. It is inappropriate use of electronics in the restroom.”
But Juco knew that was bullsh-t, because every girl in the school takes selfies in the bathroom and makes them their profile photo on Facebook. None of those students ever get punished, so why was she?
The good news is that after the story went viral, the superintendent for Wayne-Westand Community Schools fixed the problem. Both problems, actually. She sent a plumber to fix the bathroom problem, and made sure to take the suspension off Juco’s record.
But still, why did the school react in such an odd way to begin with? WHAT ARE THEY TRYING TO HIDE?
