A healthy weight for a 14-year-old boy is around 100-110 pounds. That’s a healthy weight. The poor boy in this story entered the hospital at a shocking 55 pounds.
The Alabama teen was allegedly locked inside his adoptive parents’ basement for two years with little food, medical care or water. The parents, Richard and Cynthia Kelly took the teen to the emergency room because his condition worsened.
When he arrived, the hospital staff saw the classic signs of abuse and notified the police. During questioning, police discovered Richard and Cynthia subjected the teen to “forced isolation for extended periods of time,” and that he was denied food.
Helena police Chief Pete Folmar says it’s the worst case of neglect he’s ever seen. Even the professionals investigating the case are having trouble keeping an open mind.
Shelby County District Attorney Jill Lee told reporters the following:
“I am bound to remind everyone that they remain innocent until proven guilty. But this office will prosecute vigorously and to fullest extent the law will allow.”
The parents are currently facing aggravated abuse charges, but the punishment could be more severe if the boy does not make a full recovery. The reports claim he is still in the hospital fighting for his life.
Our thoughts and prayers are with him. Our evil stares and bad thoughts are with his parents.
