Another foolish facebook user. Jacob Cox-Brown basically turned himself in for a crime that he might have gotten away with.
It all started when the 18 year old posted what he thought was a private message. He wrote on his private wall,
“Drivin drunk … classsic 😉 but to whoever’s vehicle i hit i am sorry. :P”
As we all know, or should know by now, things on your facebook wall never stay private for long. This was no exception. Two of Jacob’s friends saw the post and reported it to Astoria police. Astoria Police released a statement regarding the incident,
“It was a private Facebook message to one of our officers that got this case moving, though. When you post … on Facebook, you have to figure that it is not going to stay private long.”
This braggadocio matched a hit and run crash that was reported at 1 AM. A white Scion and a car parked in front of the Scion had both been side swiped. One of the officers handling the case collected several pieces of tail light and bumper during his investigation. After the police were notified about the post on facebook, they took the car parts collected earlier over to Jacob’s residence and found that they matched a vehicle registered to Cox-Brown.
Cox-Brown was arrested and charged with two accounts of failing to perform duties of a driver.
