Two Austin, Texas police officers are in a lot of trouble after defense attorney Drew Gibbs found dashboard footage of them joking about rape.
In the video down below, you can hear one of the officers say, “Look at that girl over there.” And then the second officer blows his whistle and replies, “Go ahead and call the cops. They can’t un-rape you.”
After a few seconds of sick laughter, the other officer realizes this exchange was probably caught on camera. “You didn’t turn your camera off, did you?” He asks.
The attorney who found the disgusting comments was reviewing the cam footage for a case he was working on. Gibbs released the following statement…
“The Carlson Law Firm obtained this video as a part of our standard investigation of a motor vehicle collision. The comments on the video struck me as inappropriate and I chose to allow the court of public opinion to decide if they agreed.”
So, what is the Austin Police Department planning on doing about this? An investigation, of course. And until the findings are complete, the officers will remain on duty.
“The officers in the video/audio have been identified as Austin Police officers. Upon learning of the video’s contents, the Department immediately launched an internal investigation. The investigation will include a comprehensive audit of the involved officers’ contacts with victims of sexual assault to ensure the actions taken during the contacts meet the expectations of the Department, the public and most importantly, the victims. Upon conclusion of the investigation, the Department will take appropriate corrective action.”
To serve and protect, huh?
