Enzo’s Caffe Italiano is clearly loved by the locals in Portland, Oregon. It has maintained a 4-star rating on Yelp with over 90 (mostly positive) reviews. However, you can’t make everyone happy, especially not Kathleen Hampton.
The woman has filed a lawsuit for $100,000 after allegedly experiencing poor service during her lonely Valentine’s Day dinner. We say lonely because her husband refused to join her on this romantic dinner. She and her husband had made reservations for the special night, but he cancelled at the last minute. In the suit, Hampton claims her husband was still full from lunch.
But she wasn’t going to let her husband’s full stomach ruin her night. She decided to show up at the restaurant by herself. She sat down at the table she reserved for two, but claims no one would take her order. Instead, she was asked to give up the table.
Hampton says she was “crushed” and tried to compromise with the restaurant by asking for an order to go; however, she claims they told her that they don’t do take out.
“That was the final straw. I’ve never heard of a food place not having to go. I was so devastated I cried for one day … I don’t want this to happen to anyone else that’s why I’m filing this complaint.”
But the owner of the restaurant, Enzo Lanzadoro, remembers the night a bit differently. He told Oregon Live the following…
“She made [a] reservation for two and when she got there, said ‘Oh, just by myself.’ We offered for her to sit at the bar with other single diners since Valentine’s Day is very busy and all we know is she got up [from the table] and left without paying after she drank two glasses of wine.”
In addition to the $100,000, the angry woman is asking for a “public apology both in person and in writing in news and community papers.”
Hm. We’re beginning to think it wasn’t the big lunch that made her husband cancel. He probably just wanted a night away from his insane wife.
