For the past month, strange incidents involving coyotes have been puzzling motorists driving down Highway 1 in the Bolinas area of California.
The animals will jump in the middle of traffic, stare down and circle the stopped vehicles, and then run back off into the wild. This is extremely odd behavior for coyotes, and it has some drivers terrified.
One driver told the Pacific Sun that it’s both terrifying and beautiful at the same time, which strangely is how I would describe nearly all of my ex-girlfriends.
Wildlife officials thought at first the animals might have rabies; however, that has since been ruled out because this has been going on for at least a month now. According to the officials, that’s longer than an animal infected with rabies is expected to survive.
Some officials believe the coyotes are simply living the good life with some ‘shrooms. The area is apparently covered with fly agaric mushrooms, which would certainly explain the odd behavior by the coyotes.
However, some officials believe the coyotes might be fearing humans less because people are beginning to feed them.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m hoping it’s the mushroom explanation. That could make a great horror film.
