An 89-year-old man from Philadelphia had a wild weekend. He jumped inside his truck to hit up a local grocery store, but something happened on the way there, and he ended up driving all the way to Alabama.
Two police officers were eating breakfast in a small town in Alabama when they were approached by the elderly man, Jody Tarbutton. He asked them where he was, “They said, ‘You’re in Alabama, Haleyville, Alabama,’ And it sort of stunned him.”
The officers knew something was wrong, so they took him to the police station and ran his driver’s license. They discovered that he had been missing for two days.
Jody’s daughter was shocked when she got the call, “We never, never, never expected to hear the news that he was in Alabama.” They had contacted police in Pennsylvania to report him missing two days before and made several posts on Facebook. No one figured he was in Alabama.
He was treated for high blood pressure and dehydration. He’s never been clinically diagnosed with dementia, but it’s something they might want to look at now. No one drives from Philly to Alabama simply because they forgot which road to take back home.
At least he’s back at home now for the holidays. His daughter flew down to Alabama to help him get on a flight. His truck will be shipped back to him.
